I’m starting to think that Johnny Damon really is the actual son of god...with Bill Mueller and Capitan ‘Tek as second cousins once removed.

Speaking of gods, the Baseball Gods are first-rate bastards. They know damn well that’s not what I meant by "excitement." They’re just lucky Matty wasn’t seriously broken, else I'd've kicked their incorporeal asses.

Yuck. SportsDesk last night took the opportunity to pull out the old Bryce Florie footage. Unfortunately, I’d briefly switched over to the Weather Channel so I’d missed the warning that they were going to do so. (I assume there was a warning, anyway. They warned us each time they replayed Matty getting clocked, and that’s far less graphic.) I passed on breakfast this morning.

Despite the cancelled flight and lost luggage, Manny From the ‘Hood had himself a 3-up, 3-down major league debut. Sweet. Is it too soon to start petitioning for this kid as our closer? Unlike some (::cough::Curt Schilling::cough::), he seems to have a solid grasp of the "third out" concept. Also, he just might be the cutest damn thing in the known universe (hey, it's not like ever had credibility in the first place, right?).

Yeah, they were kind enough not to show the Florie thing at ALL during the game, but SportsDesk jumped at the opportunity. Uuuugh.
I think I immediately fell in love with Manny Delcarmen, especially after he struck out the first major league hitter he ever faced, and then had a 1-2-3 inning.
Although I nearly had a heart attack when he got hit in the side with the ball.

I started falling for Bullpen Manny last week after hearing his “spent Draft Day at Old Country Buffet” story on WEEI.

Coming into a chaotic game and calmly pitching a perfect inning (including his first major league K)...that pretty much cemented it.

And, yes, totally with you on the heart attack. I was like Shit! Not him, too!

The bar I was at went totally silent when Matt went down. Honest to God, I thought he was dead for a couple of minutes... I didn't see him move, and had no idea if he was breathing or not. Scary, scary, scary.

But Manny the younger was impressive. Especially since he was pitching with a big 'FOR SALE' sign on his back.

I, too, had a nauseous few moments where I thought that blow had killed him. Horrifying. That it pretty much amounted to just a little bump on the head is amazing (and a relief).

As for Manny Dos, ixnay the "he's on the block" innuendo please. I'm trying to live in denial here. Seriously, why get rid of a young, inexpensive arm? Have they seen the bullpen lately???? At the risk of incurring the wrath of the "No Free Pass" crowd (well, it would be a risk if anyone actually read me), I don't need to win this year that badly.
